A multi-international award-winning guitar duo will present a vibrant concert across a range of musical genres on Thursday night in Summerstrand.
The Port Elizabeth Music Society has invited the dynamic double Sama-winning group CH2 to perform at the Nelson Mandela University’s south campus auditorium.
Dirkie van Staden, who joined in January, and Corneille Hutten-Burger, one of the two founding members, will bring their blend of guitar mastery with them.
CH2’s live shows have taken the two musicians around the globe and they have just released a new album, Insomnia.
The visual impact of what they do on their guitars makes CH2 a must-see live act as they showcase the virtuoso technical possibilities on the guitar, using classical and other techniques.
The artists, whom Hutten-Burger and Van Staden enjoy, give the audience a clue as to what sort of music to expect on Thursday night: Gipsy Kings, Paco de Lucia, LAGQ, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Tommy Emmanuel, John Williams, Steve Lukather, Scott Tennant, Joe Bonamassa, Doug Smith and Jody Fisher are among their favourites. Toss in a few tunes from Sting, Metallica, John Lennon and Michael Jackson and it sounds like a refreshing mix.
They also have 11 albums and a full orchestral live DVD mixed in London behind their name.
They have recently been accepted into one of the biggest movie libraries in the world that supplies Hollywood and Bollywood music for A-list movies. The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets will be on sale at the door at R85 for adults, R70 for pensioners, R35 for students and R30 for pupils.
