Mansfield Police Department, 30 N. Diamond St., Mansfield – A dispatcher Sunday night said the New York Police Department had reported recovering a firearm reported stolen by a 55-year-old local resident. The gun was recovered in Brooklyn.
Jones Potato Chips, 265 Bowman St., Mansfield – Officers responded to an alarm sounding at the business Sunday afternoon. They observed found a damaged front door and a damaged guitar next to the door that appeared to be used to gain entry, according to a police report. Officers checked the warehouse but didn’t find anything.
400 block of Beethoven Street, Mansfield – Officers responded to a witness’ report of a man with a belt around his arm “shooting up” in a vehicle Sunday afternoon. A 45-year-old man who owns a trailer at the location eventually admitted the 27-year-old man suspected of “shooting up” was inside the trailer. Officers found an empty syringe in the vehicle, and the 27-year-old admitted to using it. In the trailer, officers found a small bag of suspected heroin. Both men denied ownership of the drugs. Both signed grand jury waiver forms. The 27-year-old was issued a summons in lieu of arrest on a charge of possessing drug abuse instruments and released. The suspected drugs were submitted to the crime lab for testing, and a copy of the report was submitted to the prosecutor’s office for possible charges.
Aluminum and Metal Exchange, 515 Ashland Road, Mansfield – A 50-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning on a breaking and entering charge. Officers found the man after a short foot pursuit while responding to an alarm at the business. Officers found suspected blood on a broken window at the residence, and the man was wearing rubber gloves, with blood on his hand. The man, who said he is “struggling with a drug problem and needs help,” said he broke in to look for money but didn’t find any and left. The man admitted to another breaking business about two weeks ago. The business’ keyholder reported nothing was stolen. The man remains in the county jail on two fourth-degree felony charges of breaking and entering, according to jail records.
First block of Mendota Street, Mansfield – A 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday night on a charge of possessing drug abuse instruments. An officer stopped the man’s vehicle for having no tail lights, noting in a police report the man was “driving around a high drug area and seen leaving a suspected drug house.” Officers found a syringe and suspected heroin under the vehicle’s cupholder. The man said the syringe was his, while someone gave him the suspected drugs. Charges will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office in reference to pending lab results.
1000 block of McPherson Street, Mansfield – A 26-year-old woman was issued summonses in lieu of arrest Monday morning on charges of possessing drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. During a traffic stop, an officer found syringe caps in the woman’s hand and the vehicle seat, a burnt spoon and two syringes, which were in the woman’s bra.
100 block of Cleveland Avenue, Mansfield – A 37-year-old man was arrested on a warrant Sunday evening. He remains in the county jail on a fifth-degree felony charge of aggravated possession of drugs, according to jail records.
Volunteers of America, 921 N. Main St., Mansfield – A man reported a 40-year-old man escaped from the facility Saturday night or Sunday morning. The man was dropped off for work at a restaurant. After his shift, he never called staff members to be picked up.
Tobacco Inn, 777 Ashland Road, Mansfield – An employee reported a cashier received a fake $20 bill from a customer Sunday morning. The employee said the customer bought $300 in tobacco products, and one of the bills was a fake $20 with “Chinese writing” on the side, according to a police report. The customer said she did not know the bill was fake and would replace the money with a real bill. The bill is with Richland Bank, while a copy of the bill was submitted to the police department.
First block of Mendota Street, Mansfield – A woman reported an unknown man ran up behind her as she was walking and stole her purse, which contained $440 in cash and two credit cards, Sunday morning. She said the man ran east.
200 block of East Arch Street, Mansfield – A man reported someone broke out a glass front window Monday morning while he was at the hospital. The man believes it was two teenagers who he said assaulted him early Monday morning. The man reported one of the teens punched him in the face, and he was transported to the hospital for treatment.
100 block of North Benton Street, Mansfield – A woman reported a 25-year-old man stole her vehicle Sunday night. The Ohio Highway Patrol found the vehicle near Ohio 430 and Laver Road on Monday afternoon.
Walmart, 2485 Possum Run Rd., Mansfield – An employee reported a 37-year-old man removed items from store shelves and returned them to get a gift card Sunday afternoon. He then removed more items from the store without paying. According to a police report, the total value of the items, mostly food, was $310. The man was arrested on a shoplifting charge and taken to the county jail.
Family Dollar, 431 Ashland Rd., Mansfield – A woman reported her purse and its contents were stolen from the front seat of her vehicle as she was inside the store Sunday afternoon. The woman found her phone later in the day, but the rest of her items are still missing.
100 block of Ridgewood Boulevard, Mansfield – A woman reported her license plates were stolen off her vehicle parked in her driveway between Friday and Sunday.
800 block of Manchester Road, Mansfield – A woman told police Sunday evening she found old ammunition and gun powder inside a residence while cleaning for her mother.
First block of South Glenn Avenue, Mansfield – An officer on patrol heard three shots fired in the area Sunday morning. Officers were unable to find anything.
200 block of Bennett Avenue, Mansfield – A man reported someone took his phone out of his unlocked vehicle Saturday night or Sunday morning.
200 block of Taylor Road, Mansfield – An officer found two vehicles were broken into and a $200 GPS was stolen from one of the vehicles Saturday night or Sunday morning.
600 block of Manchester Road, Mansfield – A woman reported a $100 portable DVD player was stolen out of a vehicle Saturday night or Sunday morning.
700 block of Burns Street, Mansfield – A woman reported someone cut the screen to her kitchen window and tried to enter her residence Saturday night or Sunday. Nothing was missing from the residence, she reported.
