The summer music concert series begins at Marylhurst July 14, with Portland Classic Guitar’s season ending concert featuring proprietor William Jenks.
Portland Classic Guitar will present the final concert of its 2016-17 season, and the first concert in Marylhurst University’s Summer on the Green series July 14. The concert features William Jenks, guitar instructor at Marylhurst University and proprietor of Portland Classic Guitar, Chilean guitarist Alberto Cumplido and Cuban guitarist Ruben Gonzalez. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Lajos Balogh Performance Shell on campus, 17600 Pacific Highway, Lake Oswego. This is a family-friendly concert and will also feature a performance by the Marylhurst University Guitar Ensemble, directed by Jenks.
This is a rare opportunity to hear three internationally renowned guitar masters in a single concert. Jenks is both a performer and an advocate for the art of guitar, through his concert series, his teachings and his high-end guitar shop. Gonzalez has won an impressive number of prestigious guitar competitions and is an in-demand teacher and performer in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Argentina. Cumplido is both a guitarist and a composer. He has experimented with electronic music, composed for dance, film and theater and explored the intersection of music and the spoken word.
The concert is free and open to all. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit upon. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
