New West Guitar plays at park | Music

SOUTH BEND — New West Guitar Group performs at 7 p.m. Saturday as part of the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County’s Performing Arts Series at Chris Wilson Pavilion in Potawatomi Park, 500 S. Greenlawn Ave.

Founded by John Storie and Perry Smith, the trio also includes Will Brahm, all on guitar. New West’s repertoire includes recognizable covers, jazz standards and originals. The group’s signature sound comes from an innovative style that highlights rhythm, beauty and virtuosity through combining acoustic and electric guitars.

Since 2005, New West has released six albums, including its most recent, 2015’s “Send One Your Love,” which features guest vocalists Gretchen Parlato, Sara Gazarek, Becca Stevens, Tierney Sutton and Peter Eldridge.

The group is due to release a live album recorded at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Pennsylvania.

Storie was a student of the late Chris Wilson, a South Bend native for whom the pavilion is named.
