Music fills Rock City weekend – Rockland – Camden – Knox – Courier-Gazette

Rockland — Rock City Café, 316 Main St., will present live music Friday through Sunday, Dec. 21 through 23. There is no cover charge, but tips in the basket are much appreciated.

Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., Rock City welcomes the Blind Albert Band featuring Glen DuBose, Jason Dean and Vincent “Blind Albert” Gabriel. The trio, making a rare Rockland appearance, plays original world, blues, Latin, rock and more.

Saturday evening, also from 6 to 8 p.m., Lincolnville’s Will Brown returns, with a special guest. Brown plays finger-style guitar and has played and recorded with many Maine musicians during the past 35 years. The evening will include Americana, folk and traditional songs and tunes from both sides of the Atlantic.

Joining Brown for portions of the evening will be Richard Murray of Maryland, who plays great fiddle and mandolin. Together, they will play a number of sets of transatlantic and Appalachian mountain tunes.

The holiday weekend will wrap up Sunday afternoon with a traditional Irish session from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join local musicians for an special holiday session of traditional Irish tunes and a few songs. The vast repertoire of Irish music is known far and wide, and musicians come together to play the tunes they know in common and see what comes from their musical “conversation.”

Food is available until closing. For more information on these and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123 or find it on Facebook. Wishes for Happy Holidays are extended from everyone at the Rock City Employee Cooperative.
