ALBANY –An Albany County jury found a 52-year-old man guilty of stealing a guitar from a hotel, District Attorney David Soares’ office said.
Latif Shamsuddin was convicted of burglary before Judge William A. Carter Thursday and faces up to 15 years in state prison.
Jurors found that on Aug. 15, Shamsuddin entered Modern Body Art on South Pearl Street to sell a guitar he said was once owned by his father.
The store clerk bought the guitar at a heavily reduced price but had a suspicion it might be stolen, prosecutors said. Albany police learned a guitar matching that description was stolen from the Hilton Hotel on Lodge Street that same day.
Shamsuddin was filmed on hotel cameras with the guitar and taken into custody on Madison Avenue, allegedly confessing.
Sentencing will be July 20.
