CALEDONIA — A Racine man was arrested after he allegedly stole $20,000 worth of guitars from his ex-girlfriend’s grandfather.
Trevor J. Ottum, 21, of the 600 block of Grove Avenue is charged with two felony counts of burglary and three felony counts of bail jumping.
On June 12, an officer responded to a home in the 3700 block of Debby Lane in Caledonia for a reported theft, the criminal complaint said.
A resident reportedly told the officer that her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Ottum, stole a guitar from her daughter’s closet. The guitar, last seen around March 1, belonged to the resident’s father.
The officer reportedly returned to the house later that day, and the resident told him that two other guitars were missing from her father’s house. One was a Gibson valued at $10,000, and the two others were valued at $5,000, he report said.
Ottum allegedly admitted to his ex-girlfriend he took the guitars and sold them at Music Center in Kenosha. Paperwork at Music Center reportedly showed Ottum sold the Gibson guitar for $2,400 on March 27. He returned April 3 and sold the other two guitars from the Bell Road home, the complaint states.
As part of a prior bond, Ottum reportedly was restricted from having contact with his ex-girlfriend or going to her home.
If convicted of all charges, Ottum faces up to 24 years in prison.
