VERA, Okla. (KTUL) — A Vera, Okla. man received a chance of a lifetime getting to share a song with Garth Brooks.
Brooks’ invitation to the man to perform on stage at his concert is going viral, all thanks to a sign the man’s wife made.
For most of his life Jonathan Chasteen has wanted to make it as a singer.
“My dream has always been to be on a stage, I mean that’s where I feel most comfortable,” said Chasteen.
He’s lived in the small town of Vera his entire life, even volunteering at the local fire department while performing in a family band.
And it was at a hall across the street from his grandparents’ house where he first began performing, many in the community seeing his talent for years.
It’s a talent his wife wanted the whole world to see.
Fast forward to Friday night when a sign she was holding at a Garth Brooks concert in Oklahoma City caught the singer’s attention.
“And he said so you play music because of Garth and I said yes sir,” said Chasteen.
That’s when Brooks invited the 28-year-old on stage. Not only did he perform with the country legend, but he got to keep the guitar.
“The last 48 hours have just flipped my world upside down,” said Chasteen.
The video has gone viral with more than 750,000 views on Facebook.
His family cant believe it.
“I think all things happen for a reason, and I think it was just meant to be. It’s his time to shine,” said grandfather Buford Chasteen.
Jonathan played a song called Empty Glass by Gary Stewart.
It was the first song that came to mind when he was put on the spot. A once in a lifetime song in front of thousands.
“People dream about this. I’ve dreamed about this and it came true,” said Chasteen.
The 28-year-old is performing with his band “Family Tradition” in August at the Cherokee Casino in Ramona.
He of course plans to use his new guitar.
Chasteen says he wasn’t able to get Brooks to sign the guitar but he’s hoping he can somehow get the country singer to do so in the future.
