Local Grammy-winning artist Brad Davis was presented with his first signature series guitar at his downtown recording studio Tuesday afternoon.
Davis was presented his “Brad Davis Signature Model” by representatives from Alvarez Guitars and St. Louis Music, Alvarez’ distribution company. The guitar is a dreadnought-style acoustic guitar made from spruce, mahogany and rosewood. The guitar features a “coffee burst” finish, a much darker version of the popular “sun burst” finish, as well as the letters “BD” visible on the fingerboard.
The idea for the signature guitar came from a mutual friendship between Davis and St. Louis Music’s Senior vice president of sales Robert Lee. The two knew each other from some time ago, but after Lee came onboard with St. Louis, the two meet by chance at the airport in Nashville. They kept up correspondence, and now this guitar is the culmination of those events.
Alvarez head designer Chris Meikle detailed the origins of the guitar, which was hand-crafted in the Yairi factory in Japan, known for high-quality guitars. Every guitar in the factory is made completely by hand, with no heavy machinery involved.
The Brad Davis Signature Guitar will be showcased at the annual National Association of Music Merchants show in January 2018. A more economic version is also expected to be retailed later next year.
