The Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton announces a brand new concept in the “learn & sip” events world. Strum & Spirits with David Victor, former guitarist and lead vocalist of the multi-platinum band Boston, will hold two sessions in the Firehouse Theater this summer: June 29, and again August 24 (different songs at 2nd session), both starting at 7:30 p.m.
“Strum & Spirits” is an interactive, social way for beginners to learn to play the guitar, discover some rock ‘n roll history, experience new wines and of course have fun and laughs along the way. “It’s like a paint-and-sip class, only more rockin’.” says Victor.
Led by guitarist/vocalist David Victor, each session is a complete lesson, where David “takes each group by the hand and gently introduces the fundamental concepts of the guitar” while spiking the experience with humorous behind-the-scenes and on-the-road stories from his wide ranging rock ‘n roll adventures, including the recent tours and recordings with Boston.
“No experience required.” In fact, notes David, people will probably get more out of it if they don’t know anything about guitar playing. Participants don’t even need to own a guitar, as a wide variety of guitars will be available at the venue (must select the “plus guitar” ticket when registering). Personal guitars may be brought along to use for the evening if desired.
Victor also emphasizes that folks are more than welcome if they prefer to “lurk and observe.” A huge plus for the Firehouse evenings will be a casual acoustic mini-performance by Victor to wrap up the night, including some of the biggest Boston hits, and even a few of his originals.
Tickets: $39 regular (bring your own guitar); $49 including guitar rental; $25 spectator. Tickets can be purchased online at www.firehousearts.org, by calling 931-4848, and in person at the Box Office, 4444 Railroad Avenue, Pleasanton. Box Office hours are Wednesday – Friday noon-6:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and two hours prior to the event if not sold out.
The wine pairing for June 29 features “The Fiend” from Tooth & Nail Vineyards of Paso Robles. Please note: beverages not included in event ticket; may be purchased separately.
First 40 participants will join David up on the beautiful Firehouse stage for the evening’s fun.
