Jazz festival to benefit San Jose’s Alum Rock music programs

Friends of Alum Rock Jazz will present a “Jazz Extravaganza” from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Independence High School to benefit jazz music programs in the Alum Rock Union School District.

The festival will include two outdoors stages featuring professional bands, each with alumni from Alum Rock music programs. The bands include the Joe De Rose Trio, Santa Clara Big Band, Independence High and Alum Rock Alumni Big Band, 7th Street Big Band, the Bad Ones and guest artists Gabby Horlick and Oscar Pangilinan.

The Alum Rock Jazz Band, with guest trumpeter Frank David Greene, also an alumnus, will play at 7:30 p.m. in the school theater.

The event includes a silent auction and food trucks.
