An Oklahoma musician got a surprise of a life time when he went to country music superstar Garth Brooks’ concert Friday night in Oklahoma City.
Brittany and Jonathan Chasteen live in Vera, a town near Tulsa. Because Jonathan Chasteen is a big fan of Garth Brooks, Brittany Chasteen said she decided to make a sign, even if she could get Garth to wave at them, it would be exciting.
“We booked a hotel that has a shuttle to take us to the concert. But we missed the shuttle because I was still making the sign,” Brittany Chasteen said.
The sign says, “My husband’s a musician because of you!” Brittany Chasteen said at first, Jonathan thought signs weren’t allowed at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, but she was determined to show the sign to Brooks.
Brittany Chasteen said her husband has been a Brooks fan since he was a little boy, and Brooks has influenced him to become a musician.
“We even have a video of him, when he was 3 years old, playing a Garth Brooks song on his guitar,” Brittany Chasteen said.
Brittany Chasteen said Brooks saw the sign when he came out, and waved and pointed at them a few times throughout the concert. When he came out again for his encore performance, Brittany Chasteen said Brooks eventually came over and said to them, “I’ve been seeing this sign all night long.”
“He asked if he could play acoustic and asked him to come on stage to play a song,” Brittany said.
Brittany Chasteen said Jonathan played “An Empty Glass” by Gary Stewart. Brooks then joined in and the two performed “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” by Joe Nichols.
Brooks was so impressed, he ended up giving Jonathan his guitar.
Jonathan Chasteen posted to his Facebook page, saying it has been his dream to not only meet, but sing with Garth Brooks and it just so happens that both things happened at once.
“Still doesn’t even seem real. I’m truly blessed,” Jonathan Chasteen wrote.
Brittany Chasteen posted a video to Facebook, and it has since been shared nearly 10,000 times.
