Born in Spain and based in Los Angeles, where he teaches at USC’s Thornton School of Music, Adam del Monte shines whether playing flamenco, classical or Middle Eastern music. He’s even better when he fuses all three. Del Monte’s musical partners have ranged from Dawn Upshaw and the Los Angeles Philharmonic to six-string great John Williams and Indian slide guitar marvel Debashish Bhattacharya. For his concert tonight at Tango Del Rey, del Monte will be accompanied by bassist Asaf Kofler and percussionist David Alvarez. The concert will also feature flamenco-inspired paintings by Rebecca Grohowski and guitars crafted by San Diego luthier Len Laviolette, who has made instruments for such top area musicians as Peter Sprague and Fred Benedetti.
An evening of flamenco with the Adam del Monte Trio: 7 p.m. today. Tango Del Rey, 3567 Del Rey St., Pacific Beach. $30. (619) 341-0552 or adamdelmonte.brownpapertickets.com
