The first auction should commence at 6:15 on the site blevins@8813.
Central teacher Dawn Taylor said the guitars will include a white Telecaster signed by the members of the Marshall Tucker Band. Another guitar being auctioned will be an electric mini-Fender signed by the Little River Band. Other guitars that are being auctioned have been signed by the Oak Ridge Boys, Brad Paisley and Kentucky Headhunters.
Proceeds from the auction will be used to maintain the guitar education program in the Carter County Schools. That program was started last year when the Fender Guitar Company donated guitars to schools after the results of research indicated students who learned music were more able to succeed in academic subjects.
Taylor said the auctions are being conducted to provide revenue to keep the program going. She said the music programs’s guitars will eventually wear out and need replacement. All guitars will need new strings each year.
The auctions will culminate with a barbecue dinner at Central on Oct. 5, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are $5 are now being sold in the offices of each Carter County school.
Central Principal Terry Morley said tickets sold to the barbecue dinner will benefit the guitar education program at the school where the ticket was purchased.
There will also be a raffle at Central’s dinner, with proceeds going to to the guitar education program.
