Auburn music store will try to break record for “World’s Largest Rock Band”

Spicer Music of Auburn, Ala., is putting out a call to all area musicians as they try to break a Guinness World Record for largest-ever rock band.

The event, called Make Music Alabama, is June 20 at 6 p.m. in the Gay Street Municipal Parking Lot in Auburn.

“Make Music Alabama offers musicians of all ages and all skill levels the opportunity to be a part of a historic music occasion,” Tim Spicer, the event organizer, said on his website.

A similar event last year drew more than 800 people, many of whom brought instruments. The musicians played a massive version of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama.”

This year, musicians will play along with Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel as they perform their hit “All For You.”

“It will be fun, it will be loud and it will be monumental,” Spicer said. “The world record is 953, and we already have 1045 pre-registered attendees. If we get 1500, we will blow the world record out of the water.”

The event is free, but attendees are required to register to receive their musical parts in the song. Registration is available at
